CONCEPT
Split over two floors the lava field observation platform has been designed to create different moments for its visitors, the ground floor is made up of a meeting area and small café where people can interact and share their experiences with each other and the first floor is a large open space where visitors have an elevated view of the caves, natural springs and surrounding lava fields.
The architecture is inspired by abstracted rock forms breaking out of the ground and the materials reflect the tones and textures of the natural environment, which over time will weather and blend into the landscape.
A central staircase leading up to the viewing platform gives the feeling of emerging through a crack in the rocks.

To harvest and reuse rainwater the staircase is an open void with holes located in each of the concrete steps to allow rain water to drain into tanks below.
The interior design and furniture is simple and functional to meet the needs of the space and users with a palette that is inspired by nature, combining organic and refined, reflective materials to create contrast throughout the space.
